SEA OF THE SALENTO

The Salento Sea is impossible to describe – it has to be experienced! The stretch of coastline along the Alimini Lakes is among the most beautiful and unspoilt; its colour fills the eye with beauty and awe. These beaches, named after the lakes Alimini Grande and Alimini Piccolo, together with the Baia dei Turchi constitute a large part of the sandy beaches around Otranto.

The beaches Alimini and Baia dei Turchi have repeatedly received the “Blue Flag”, the “5 Vele di Legambiente” and been awarded the “Green Flag” as child-friendly beaches by Italian paediatricians. The finest sand, a clear sea, occasionally the right wind for the joy of surfers and surrounded by Mediterranean scrub that spreads fragrant essences. Moreover, when the west wind blows, the sea reveals its shallow waters, perfect for children and long walks along the shoreline.

In this pristine ecosystem between sea and the lakes, many species of water birds such as the white stork and imperial eagles find the perfect habitat.
